Empowering Education: Recap of the Fifth National Meeting at DITECH Erasmus+ Project

The fifth national meeting of the DITECH project occurred on December 15, 2023, with the opening address given by the national coordinator of the project, Associate Professor Izabela Petriashvili from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The agenda for the meeting was introduced, and participants were reminded of the list of activities within the project's framework.

Representatives from all participating universities attended, focusing on discussing project results, usefulness, sustainability, and future development. Each speaker provided a detailed summary of the activities conducted in the universities' according to Work Packages (WPs). The meeting addressed the final report, and the project's last newsletter, and discussed issues necessary for effective dissemination.

Collaborative Excellence: Crafting DITECH Undergraduate and Graduate Course Reading Materials

DITECH's undergraduate and graduate courses have been developed with the support and recommendations of the academic staff of the Universities of Tallinn, Kaunas, and Cork. In the process of creating reading materials (readers) for both study courses, the academic staff of all universities participating in the project were involved, working according to the pre-written plan and topic.

On November 28, 2023, another meeting of the editorial group for the reading materials of the master's course was held on the Zoom platform. Group members reviewed the master course reader and made final changes to it.

FINAL NEWSLETTER

Fifth DITECH Consortium Final Meeting at Tallinn University

From November 6th to 8th, 2023, the 5th and final meeting of the Erasmus+ project DITECH consortium was convened at Tallinn University in Estonia, with delegations from member universities in attendance.

The opening session was initiated by Katrin Niglas, the vice-rector of Tallinn University, who showcased Tallinn University's experience in digital technologies to the consortium members. She emphasized the significance of technological advancements and their integration into the university's educational processes. The vice-rector extended congratulations to the meeting participants for the successful conclusion of the project and expressed eagerness for future collaborations.

Zurab Khonelidze, the Rector of Sokhumi State University, welcomed the consortium members and, on behalf of the university, honored Professor Sirje Virkus, the international coordinator of DITECH, with the certificate for the best coordinator. Additionally, Shalva Kirtadze, the Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, greeted the consortium and highlighted the project's accomplishments at their institution.

The process of editing reading material for DITECH BA and MA courses

DITECH's BA and MA courses have been developed with the support and recommendations of academic staff from Tallinn, Kaunas and Cork universities. In the process of creating reading materials (readers) for both study courses, the academic staff of all universities participating in the project were involved, working according to the pre-written plan and topic.

Final editorial teams for reading material were established at both the MA and BA levels. From August to October, the editorial teams regularly met on the Zoom platform and worked on editing the material created by the academic staff.

Successful DITECH Dissemination Day Showcases Transformative Impact at Sokhumi State University

The DITECH project, supported by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, continues to spearhead vital reforms in educational programs across Georgian universities and schools. The project focuses on curriculum enhancements and the professional development of both students and academic staff.

At the heart of this initiative, an informative analytical conference took place on November 2, 2023, at Sokhumi State University. Esteemed members of the DITECH project presented a comprehensive overview of the project's remarkable achievements and three-year journey to the engaged audience.

Welcoming the conference, Professor Zurab Khonelidze, Rector of Sokhumi State University, emphasized the pivotal role of educational projects in nurturing the growth of academic staff. Associate Professor Izabela Petriashvili, the national coordinator of the DITECH project from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, highlighted the significant strides made in Georgian universities.

DITECH Consortium Meeting in Batumi

On October 26-27, 2023, a DITECH Consortium meeting was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The meeting was inaugurated by the project manager, Professor Sirie Virkus from Tallinn University, and the national project manager, Associate Professor Izabela Petriashvili from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The DITECH Consortium members were greeted by the university's rector, Prof. Merab Khalvashi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education, Prof. Lela Turmanidze.

Over the course of two days, the consortium members deliberated on the results of the external quality assessment and interim report, along with challenges and strategies to mitigate them (Sirie Virkus). The methods of internal quality control and assessment in Georgian universities were discussed, and the outcomes of the mutual evaluation of syllabi and piloting were summarized (Tamar Aslanishvili, Tamta Demetradze), followed by a panel discussion.

DITECH International Conference "Digital Technologies in Education"

Batumi, Georgia — September 25, 2023

Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi proudly hosted the international scientific-practical conference "Digital Technologies in Education" of the European Union Erasmus + project DITECH.

The DITECH international conference was about the prospects of teaching, implementation and sustainable development of digital technologies in higher educational institutions and the general education system. European and Georgian universities were involved in the work of the conference: Tallinn University (Estonia), Kaunas University (Lithuania), Cork University College (Ireland), Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Ilia State University, Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, Telavi Jacob Gogebashvili State University , Sokhumi State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University, National Center for Teacher Professional Development.

Workshop at Ivane Javakhishvili State University

From September 11 to 13, 2023, the fifth international conference on the topic of "Learning a Second Language" was hosted at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The event received support from the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers at Vilnius University (Lithuania) and the Center for Civil Integration and International Relations, with a focus on teaching in the context of multilingual education.

Several workshops were conducted as part of the conference. DITECH members, namely Izabela Petriashvili, Shota Barbkadze, and Ana Kobakhidze, shared insights from the DITECH project with conference participants and conducted a workshop titled "Utilizing Digital Tools in the Educational Process: DITECH Experience from the Erasmus+ Project."

Meeting of the Organizing Group for DITECH Batumi International Conference and Consortium

On September 7, 2023, the preparatory organizational group for the DITECH Batumi International Conference and Consortium convened a meeting on the Zoom platform. The working team gathered to address organizational matters concerning both the international conference and the fourth consortium meeting. Representatives from the Georgian universities involved in the consortium provided insights into the conference agenda and the consortium meeting, emphasizing their significance and contributions to the project's success. Detailed discussions were held regarding the Batumi conference and consortium meeting programs, as well as aspects like banner design, speaker certificates, and participant logistics including arrival, accommodation, registration, and various other logistical considerations.

Use of Digital Platforms and Online Tools in the Educational Process (Teacher Professional Development Center (TPDC) Trainings for School Teachers)

From April 30 to July 30, 2023, the Teacher Professional Development Center organized trainings for school teachers with the aim of disseminating knowledge about the European Union's Erasmus+ program, specifically the DITECH project. These trainings were conducted on the Teams platform under the theme "Using Digital Platforms and Online Tools in the Educational Process". Teachers from all three levels (primary, basic, and secondary) of general education schools in Georgia actively participated. At the initiation of TPDC, 60 groups were formed, with approximately 35 teachers in each group. Over the course of three months, a total of 2,699 teachers were introduced to and proficiently gained mastery over digital platforms and online tools.

These figures exemplify the remarkable success of the DITECH project!
